Datura Style™ is a dance vocabulary and approach to belly dance technique developed by Rachel Brice. Key components of this method include: cultivating a welcoming environment for learning and growth; deep practice that connects the mind and body; and an aesthetic that blends American Cabaret with American Tribal Style, creating movement that values musicality and connects dancers to each other and to audience members. You can learn more about this unique style at http://www.rachelbrice.com/what-is-datura-style/;

Datura 101: Introduction to Datura Style™ Bellydance
Wednesday October 4th, 2017 • 8:15-9:30pm • $15
Spring Fall Studio: 2547 8th Street, Studio #20 of Bay 2, Berkeley, CA 94710

If you’re unsure about committing to the full series this is your chance to get a taste of what this new style is all about! Shanti Bardot and Sarah Kate Moore will outline the essentials of dancing Datura Style Improv in a duet formation using basic steps, formation changes, and shadowing.
Note that this is not an introduction to basic bellydance technique but rather an introduction to a new style of improvisational bellydance. All levels of dancers are welcome, however a year+ of bellydance is recommended.

Datura 101 is complimentary for students who have signed up for the 6-week series, or $15 as a single class. This $15 tuition can be applied to the full 6-week series, making the series $60 (instead of $75) for those who want to sign up after attending Datura 101; we ask that the series balance be paid in full by October 7th.  If you’re interested in this class, please Sign-up via e-mail!

Please join us for the latest installment of Old World Wednesdays at the Make Out Room with Kugelplex, and Aya & Tano.
Kugelplex is California’s rockin’-est purveyor of klezmer and old-world party music. Formed in 2001, the group plays wild, soulful dance music at weddings, concerts and festivals throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles and beyond. We’ve performed with Joan Baez, the Oakland Symphony, the Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir and Frank London (founder of the Klezmatics) and many other great artists. http://kugelplex.com/band/
Aya & Tano is a Bay Area based duo of young musicians that performs traditional Albanian and Greek music. They started building their repertoire together during their travels through Eastern Europe in 2015. Aya sings and plays violin, santouri, and laouto, and Tano sings and plays saxophone, clarinet, and laouto.
We will be joined by Elizabeth Strong and Shanti Bordot belly dancing on a few special numbers.

Shanti performs and teaches Tribal Fusion belly dance, specializing in fusing Arabic Folk Dance with contemporary dance and her own aesthetic. She does both improvisational and choreographed dancing, enjoying the different creative processes.
Having studied western dance and yoga for many years before belly dancing, Shanti understands the body’s movement from the inside out.
She currently performs as a soloist in the Bay Area and collaborates with fellow dancers throughout the West Coast.

After 5 years of Cabaret style belly dance, Shanti saw Rachel Brice perform at The Roxy in 2007 and began exploring this new world of Tribal Fusion.
