In Part II of this Drum Solo Choreography Series we will be focusing on the use of shimmies, traveling steps and spins to build intensity within a performance! With these traveling steps we will be working on creating spacial awareness and dynamic staging. There will also be discussion of ways to have a strong presence on stage as a soloist and in a group performance.
Isolation patterns, shimmy drills for strong yet relaxed hip movement and tricks for remembering choreography will be featured in this class as well.
Class Level: This is an all levels class with bellydance technique being the main focus. Previous dance experience is helpful but not required. Students will be given individualized instruction to help them grow and improve as dancers.
Yoga will be included at the beginning and end of class for conditioning.
Please bring a yoga mat and finger cymbals.
(both are available at the studio to borrow as well)
Performance Opportunity!
Students who attend the full 6-class series of both Part 1 and Part 2 will have the option to perform the full choreography at a local bellydance showcase/hafla at the end of April. Those who can only attend the full 6-class series of Part 2 may also perform a shorter section of the choreography if they so wish. Performing is of course optional, more details to come!

The focus of my next two class series (Jan/Feb and March/April) will be on learning the art of the drum solo! For me, this is often the highlight of a performance and I am very excited to share with you all my personal tricks for creating a dynamic and powerful choreography with simple, clear and dramatic movement.
In Part I we will be working on isolation patterns, the basics of a strong, relaxed hip shimmy, using the arms as frames for movement and tricks for remembering choreography! I will also be discussing basic drum rhythms and how they relate to bellydance movement.
Yoga will be included at the beginning and end of class for conditioning and relaxation.
