Tribal Fusion Drum Solo Choreography Part I
January 14th – February 25th
(No class February 4th)
All Levels Class! Beginners Welcome!
Ciara Dance Studio
21250 Califa Street
Woodland Hills, CA 91307
The focus of my next two class series (Jan/Feb and March/April) will be on learning the art of the drum solo! For me, this is often the highlight of a performance and I am very excited to share with you all my personal tricks for creating a dynamic and powerful choreography with simple, clear and dramatic movement.
In Part I we will be working on isolation patterns, the basics of a strong, relaxed hip shimmy, using the arms as frames for movement and tricks for remembering choreography! I will also be discussing basic drum rhythms and how they relate to bellydance movement.
Class Level: This is an all levels class and is a great introduction to bellydance technique and Arabic drum rhythms for those new to this material or who are looking to further develop their understanding of these topics. Previous dance experience helpful, but not required. Students will be given individualized instruction to help them grow and improve as a dancers.
Yoga will be included at the beginning and end of class for conditioning and relaxation.
Please bring a yoga mat and finger cymbals.
(both are available at the studio to borrow as well)
Students who attend the full 6-class series of both Part I and Part II will have the option to perform this choreography at a local bellydance showcase/hafla in April. Performing is of course optional, more details to come!

Shanti Jourdan is a Tribal Fusion Belly Dancer with a love for teaching, accordions and ¾ shimmies. Her teaching style is precise and fluid, focusing on maintaining integrity throughout the body. She specializes in American Tribal Style, Improvisational Tribal Style and fusion choreography with an interest in Turkish Romani, Egyptian Raqs Sharqi and Arabic folk dance.
Dancing has been a lifelong passion for Shanti, and when she started belly dancing in 2002 a whole new world of expression opened up. Isolations, layers and shimmies quickly became obsessions along with Arabic drum rhythms and improvisational dancing. Seeing the Indigo perform in 2007 lead to finding Tribal Fusion and a feeling of finding home.
Shanti is 8 Elements Level II certified and dances with Wild Routes, Qabila Folkdance Co., and is co-director of Mas’uuda. She also performs as a soloist and in dance projects throughout the West coast.
